While this particular headline might raise some hopeful eyebrows, I would advise you to take a more cautious stance when reading the attached article. Good news, yes, but the increases appear tied to the robust growth in sales through fall and into December. According to the article, builders jumped on the news and hurried to break ground on new housing. Question is: is there any real evidence that the growth in sales can be sustained? The main thing you can do is not take any action or make any judgments based on one single month or even a pair of months. Trends take longer to get established and they’re usually a few bumps along the way.

One last thought about construction: think statewide or nationally; in Marin new housing starts don’t have much impact on our market…there just isn’t enough land to build many new houses…
